Number of Positions: One (1)
Permanent full time (35hrs/week) position

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide skilled nursing care and rehabilitation therapy to animals recovering from illness, injury, or surgery. Monitor their condition and implement mobility exercises or pain management protocols as directed.
• Handle, restrain, and monitor animals during examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures to ensure safety for both the animal and veterinary team.
• Take diagnostic radiographs (X-rays) while following safety and positioning protocols. Collect blood, urine, fecal, and tissue samples. Perform laboratory tests such as urinalysis, fecal exams, and blood work to support veterinary diagnoses.
• Assist veterinarians before, during, and after surgical procedures by preparing sterile instruments, setting up the surgical area, administering pre-operative medications, monitoring anesthesia and vital signs, and ensuring proper post-operative care.
• Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, and prescribed treatments under the direction of a veterinarian. Monitor animals for adverse reactions and maintain accurate records.
• Operate and maintain a variety of medical and diagnostic equipment, including anesthesia machines, autoclaves, and X-ray units. Perform routine maintenance and report malfunctions.
• Clean, dress, and monitor wounds. Apply and change bandages or splints as needed, and instruct pet owners on at-home care for continued recovery.
• Educate clients on animal health care, including post-treatment instructions, nutrition, preventative care, and general wellness. Provide support and reassurance to clients, answering questions and explaining procedures clearly.
• Assist in laboratory and clinical research projects by collecting data, preparing samples, and conducting routine testing under supervision.
• Perform routine dental procedures such as cleaning, scaling, and polishing teeth. Assist veterinarians with dental surgeries, ensuring animals are safely anesthetized and monitored throughout the procedure.
Required Skills:
• At least 10 years of experience as a Registered Veterinary Technician.
• Works collaboratively with hospital team members.
• Makes decisions confidently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Communicate in a compassionate and professional manner with colleagues and clients.
Required Certifications:
• Not applicable for the Province of Prince Edward Island
Required Education:
• Diploma in Veterinary Technology
Compensation and Benefits:
• Wage: CAD $28.50 per hour.
• Vacation: 15 days per calendar year.
