Forklift Operator

Teknion Custom Solutions is looking for a Forklift Operator.  We are a custom wood office furniture manufacturer producing a large variety of office furniture.  The Forklift Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of sheet stock, glass and lumber materials into and around our busy manufacturing facility. The Forklift Operator plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth flow of production and maintaining an organized and safe work environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Requires knowledge and the ability to identify different materials such as MDF, particle board, plastic laminate, varieties of lumber and others,
• Must be able to safely move, organize and store 4 x 11 pallets of sheet stock on 8 foot racking,
• Verify the bill of lading/packing slip against received materials (quantity and quality) before signing off,
• Exceptional attention to safety protocol required for operating forklifts in a busy manufacturing environment,
• Coordinate with floor workers and reception regarding required material movements through radio communication.

Preferred Skills:

• Proven experience operating a forklift in a manufacturing or warehouse environment,
• Valid forklift operator certification,
• Ability to read and interpret work orders, shipping documents, and safety regulations,
• Ability to perform basic pre-shift equipment checks and identify potential issues,
• Physical ability to sit for extended periods, operate controls, and occasionally lift and move objects (up to 50 lbs),
• Energetic and enthusiastic attitude, thriving in a collaborative team,
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills,
• Approaches work with a high degree of organization, safety, attention to detail, and is able to prioritize activities based on key responsibilities,
• Communicates effectively in English, both in writing and verbally.

Assets: 

• 1-2 years experience in a wood or manufacturing shop,
• Previous experience as a forklift operator.
