Main Duties
The Freight Coordinator will be responsible for the following duties:
• Coordinate, monitor, and support freight movements, including rail and trucking shipments.
• Oversee shipment schedules and ensure goods are moved in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
• Negotiate freight rates, service terms, and transportation arrangements with rail carriers, trucking providers, and other logistics service providers.
• Monitor shipments in transit and proactively identify, communicate, and resolve delays, service issues, or delivery concerns.
• Coordinate with internal departments to confirm shipping requirements, delivery timelines, documentation needs, and operational priorities.
• Track and report shipment status, freight costs, carrier performance, and service timelines.
• Prepare weekly and monthly freight reports, cost summaries, shipping projections, and logistics updates for management review.
• Review freight invoices, carrier charges, and related shipping costs for accuracy and cost control.
• Maintain strong working relationships with freight forwarders, carriers, customs brokers, insurance providers, and other logistics partners.
• Ensure freight activities comply with applicable import/export requirements, shipping documentation standards, and company procedures.
• Liaise with insurance providers and internal stakeholders regarding cargo-related matters, claims, or shipment issues.
• Support the development and improvement of logistics procedures, freight tracking systems, cost-control processes, and reporting practices.
• Provide guidance and direction to internal staff involved in shipment coordination, documentation, scheduling, and freight-related administration.
• Assist with training staff on shipping procedures, carrier requirements, documentation standards, and company logistics policies.
• Resolve work-related issues, recommend process improvements, and support efficient freight and supply chain operations.
• Perform other related logistics and freight coordination duties as required.
Employment Requirements
• Completion of a post-secondary education program of two to three years in business, supply chain, production or manufacturing management and related
