• Prepare and assemble sandwiches and other menu items to order, for grab-and-go service and for larger customer orders.
• Set up the sandwich and hot-food stations before opening and maintain adequate, fresh stock throughout meal-service periods.
• Operate grills, ovens, stovetops, slicers, MerryChef rapid-cook equipment and other commercial kitchen equipment safely.
• Slice, weigh and package deli meats and cheeses for customers while following portion and presentation standards.
• Portion, heat and finish prepared entrees and sides in accordance with recipes and food-safety requirements.
• Prepare and package fresh salads, sides and other deli products for displays and customer orders.
• Plate and garnish desserts and maintain the dessert refrigerator with fresh, properly labelled stock.
• Complete daily preparation work, including washing, chopping, measuring, portioning, labelling and rotating ingredients and finished products.
• Monitor food quality, cooking temperatures, freshness and presentation; report shortages or quality concerns to the supervisor.
• Maintain clean and organized workstations, counters, coolers, utensils and kitchen equipment, including end-of-shift cleaning duties.
• Provide courteous customer service, respond to special-order questions and work cooperatively with deli, kitchen and front-of-house team members.
• Follow food-safety, sanitation, occupational health and safety, and workplace policies at all times.
Qualifications

• At least two years of experience preparing food in a high-volume commercial kitchen, deli, restaurant or similar setting.
• Experience preparing both hot and cold foods and using commercial kitchen equipment.
• Basic knife skills and sound knowledge of safe food handling, sanitation and temperature control.
• Food Handler Certificate is an asset and must be obtained if required by the employer.
• Ability to follow standardized recipes and portioning instructions accurately.
• Strong organization, attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities during busy service periods.
