Pay Range
Commensurate with experience
VHA’s Speech Language Pathologist provides consultation, assessment and planned interventions for diverse clients groups across Southern Ontario and the Capital region, referred through VHA Rehab Solutions and Champlain Rehab Solutions. The Speech Language Pathologist works within a continuous quality improvement framework, which reflects VHA’s vision and mission of services as well as promoting and maintaining good public relations with clients, customers and VHA staff, volunteers and associates.
Key Areas of Accountability
VHA’s Speech Language Pathologist have the following key areas of accountability, but not limited to:
Assesses and diagnoses clients in all age groups through the selection and administration of standardized and non-standardized tests.
Devises and implements individualized goal-directed treatment programs based on case history, assessment results, current professional practices and College standards which reflect the rehabilitative potential of the client.
Monitors the client’s progress and evaluates treatment and management on an ongoing basis.
Counsels and educates client, care-givers and family members regarding the nature and management of communication deficits.
Identifying and teaching of self-management strategies to help clients recognize and avoid unsafe situations.
Discusses clinically significant information with the physician or other appropriate members of the health care team.
Assists in client discharge planning in conjunction with the client, family members and other members of the health care team.
Maintains accurate and comprehensive written documentation of client care in accordance with existing legal, professional and VHA standards.
Maintains knowledge of current developments in Speech Language Pathology and Community Services appropriate for treatment populations.
Adheres to the code of ethics of the profession, in maintaining standards of practice for the profession as defined by the Ontario College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s Degree or equivalent in Speech Language Pathology.
Membership in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario.
Eligible for membership in the Ontario Association of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists.
Minimum of two years clinical experience and knowledge of community care requirements and resources available.
Expertise in the management of clients with complex communication disorders.
Clinical expertise to provide a variety of speech language pathology interventions.
