Senior Environmental Consultant, LPMR/ Mine Closure Planning (Mid-Level) Full Time

ERM is seeking a motivated Senior Environmental Consultant, LPMR/ Mine Closure Planning to join our Mining team at one of our offices across Canada. Working under the direction of project managers and partners, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a variety of mine closure related projects.

As a member of the Mine Closure team, you will support mines through all stages of the mine life cycle, including preparation of reclamation and closure plans to support existing mines (i.e., operations or closure), and development of closure plans that support provincial and/or federal environmental assessments. Our approach to closure focuses on integrating mine closure throughout the project lifecycle in a style that our clients have identified sets ERM apart.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Support a wide variety of mining and contaminated site projects including but not mine closure plans, mine closure cost estimate and asset retirement obligation (ARO), and development of management plans.
• Support a wide variety of services for mining projects related to Capital Project development and environmental assessments and permitting, including the development of associated management plans.
• Compile and evaluate data and assist in deliverable preparation.
• Proactively engage and network with other ERM staff regionally and globally, for knowledge sharing, market monitoring, and business development coordination.
• Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
• Work within quality / budget / schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.
• Conduct field work, including soil, water, air, and dust sampling, remediation pilot tests, construction support, and remediation system operation and maintenance.
• Communicate with subcontractors, regulatory agents, tenants, and clients during field activities.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geology, science, or related discipline. A post-graduate degree is an asset.
• 0 – 4 years of relevant experience in mining or environmental assessment work.
• Experience working in BC, Ontario, and/or the Territories and familiarity with mine closure and environmental regulatory frameworks within these locales is an asset.
• Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills; experience recording / writing detailed technical data and reports is a plus.
• Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Detail-oriented with good problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
• Willingness to conduct fieldwork in remote locations is an asset.
• Additional language skills (e.g., French and Spanish) are an asset.
• Eligibility for professional registration as a member in training (e.g., E.I.T., G.I.T., or A.I.T.) would be an asset.

For the Consultant, Liability Portfolio Management & Remediation position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $71,787 – $83,452 CAD.  An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs.  We also may have instances where compensation may be outside of the range, based on the factors noted above.  This job is also eligible for an annual discretionary based performance bonus.
