Retail Field Director – Royal Canin Full Time

Job Description:

The Retail Field Director leads 3 Regional Sales Managers, a team of 18 associates, and our outside service Agency, to service retail relationships and deliver business results. Responsible, in consultation with stakeholders, for creating a winning go-to-market retail strategy that deliver on our business objectives. Key member of our Pet Specialty, Retail, and Omnichannel (PSRO) Leadership Team, crafting the ambition, strategy & culture of the division.

This role will need to manage complexity, developing strategies & KPI’s that balance 3 streams of go to market for our retail stores: National Key Accounts, Regional Key Accounts & True Indy Partners. They will be responsible for identifying and executing against process improvements, as well as develop talent for future leadership positions.

It also links business strategy and activity to deliver long-term business plan for mutual growth. They anticipate future business needs with multi-levels within Mars, the Canadian Marketplace as well as global units.The primary responsibilities include communicating team plans and vision throughout retail sales team to align resources to develop & implement comprehensive business plans to deliver annual operating plan within trade investment plan and fixed budget requirements.

What are we looking for?

• Undergraduate degree or diploma in related field.
• Sales experience (7+ years In CPG or related field).
• People Management experience (2+ years).
• Experience managing a Retail Sales Team (Proven ability to develop multiple direct reports & managing direct reports remotely).
• Experience developing Retail Strategy and Merchandising Plans.
• Experience managing Forecast & Trade Budgets.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Bilingual (English/French) an asset.

What will be your key responsibilities?

Talent Agenda

• Build the functional capability and the engagement among retail sales team.
• Provide thorough personal development plan objectives and reviews.
• Participate In MARS ONE talent conversation (FSLT member).
• Establish functional and leadership curriculum for each member of the team.
• Responsible for the planning and execution of the retail sales function training capabilities curriculum.

Business Development

• Lead development and implementation of the Retail strategy. Set goals, track results, and recommend changes as required to deliver the business need.
• Supports the development of Regional Key Account Relationships, supporting Regional Sales Managers In furthering our business partnerships and support of our brand.
• Manages our Distributor strategy, relationships & KPI’s.
• Ensures understanding and leads the deployment of the operating plan within the customer organization via development and application of best practices.
• Ensures that company policies and sales work processes are followed.
• Continually improves sales coverage, productivity, reporting and selling cost.

Drive Business Strategy

• Lead development and implementation of the retail strategy that supports the entire business, and balances needs across National Key Accounts, Regional Key Accounts and True Indy.
• Leads annual terms negotiations and cross-functional alignment.
• Effectively anticipates future consequences, trends and competitive landscape accurately.

Business Operations

• Ensures that all financial control procedures are followed (i.e. Account Trade Spending budget) with a focus on and collaboration with Finance, SRM and Marketing.
• Ensures understanding and leads the deployment of the operating plan within the customer organization via development and application of best practices.

Sales Forecasting

• Provides Distributor sales forecast.
• Provides input to enhance business segment operating plan objectives through high contribution in DMR Feeder that supports our S&OP process.

Special Projects

• May be responsible for supporting all other sales productivity and initiatives as required.
