Health, Safety & Environment Technician Full Time

Job Description:

The HSE Technician reports to Site HSE Manager and is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, of the site Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) activities as part of the overall deployment of the regional HSE program.

The site Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Technician plays an essential role in this management system through hands-on execution of the Global / Regional HSE Standards, fostering a robust HSE culture and driving associate involvement.

  The Candidate is also required effectively Engage across the entire organization to positively improve all aspects of the operation and drive a culture of performance.

What will be your key responsibilities?
Safety:

• Ensure Site maintains continuous “audit ready” state of compliance with company and governmental HSE Standards.
• Responsible for the development, deployment of all company HSE Standards as they specifically apply to the site.
• Assist in implementation of required documentation for Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures.
• Delivers training and coaching to establish clear understanding / engagement by all site associates on HSE expectations.
• Ensures investigation of all HSE related incidents utilizing specific tools to drive to root cause and identify actions to prevent recurrence. Drives completion of recognized corrective actions to prevent incident recurrence are effectively implemented, this includes execution of corrective actions developed from other site incidents.
• Serves in conjunction with site HSE Manager, as a HSE technical expert, providing technical expertise/coaching as needed in all areas and initiatives of the function to include capital project review and risks management associated with non-capital modifications.
• Ability to influence where direct lines of authority do not exist.
• Leads and ensures the site emergency response team (ERT) has the tools, skills and knowledge to effectively respond to site HSE emergencies.
• Leads site efforts to measure and improve Industrial Hygiene Risk. This includes but is not limited to: ergonomics, dust, noise, and chemical exposure. Coordinates all necessary IH and audiometric monitoring.
• Owns the overall site Contractor Safety program to reduce risk associate with construction and trade contactor activity. Ensures project managers are accountable for proper management of contactors.
• Works with third party risk control experts to ensure compliance with company standards on new projects. Supports audit efforts to maintain and improve favorable insurance ratings.

Environmental:

• Accountable for the execution of all site’s environmental compliance programs, including air, stormwater, water, spill control, and wastewater. Ensures all testing required by company standards are met on time.
• Executes proper management of the sites hazardous waste management activities to ensure compliance with governmental, local and company regulations and standards.

Security:

• Assists with execution of site security requirements in order to meet corporate standards and with the oversight of security operations on the site.
• Supports the Mars Global Security Program by implementing standards and best practices.
• Manage Risk Management activities associated with asset conservation and property loss control. Drives timely corrective actions to third party loss risk assessments and audits.

Other duties and responsibilities as required and assigned.

Education & Professional Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in science (ex. engineering, safety, IH, Environmental etc.) or OHS Diploma AND 5 years of manufacturing experience implementing HSE programs.
• Have or be working to obtain CRSP, CRST or CEP Qualification.

Knowledge / Experience

• ISO 45001 or 14001 Auditor certifications
• Strong safety regulatory knowledge and expertise, including EPA, MOL, WSIA, etc.
• Ability to interact with site level manufacturing/business management, and regulatory agencies is required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills including a high level of comfort developing and delivering training.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, strong Excel skills.
• Experience in management of Security function.
• Basic knowledge of food manufacturing and GMP.
