Cutter Full Time

You will pick non-ferrous metals from moving conveyor and clean around mill. You will also assist shredder mechanics with general maintenance and feed conveyors and other equipment as well as sort, stack and move materials throughout the yard. You will prepare material for loading and unloading and you will also cut larger pieces of scrap steel using cutting torch.

Must have reliable transportation as there is no bus route to the work site. You must also have a valid class 5 license.

Job Description and Responsibilities

• To cut scrap steel to size using a cutting torch into quality control assigned sizes

• Report any damages or issues to the supervisor

• Keeps yard area clean, tidy and organized

• Various lifting and manual labor tasks involved

• To follow established safe work practices at all times, including wearing all personal protective equipment (PPE) or clothing

• Maintain and clean equipment as needed and assist maintenance to keep production equipment operational and functional

Requirements

• Completion of High School and/or equivalent

• No experience necessary but previous work experience in a manufacturing, production, or similar scrapyard/auto part environment will be considered an asset

• Able to meet the physical demands of the position including standing, walking, sitting, climbing, crawling, kneeling, bending, moderate to heavy lifting and pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds throughout the day

• Willing and able to work in variable weather conditions including hot, dry summer conditions and cold, harsh winter conditions

• Willing and able to work in an environment subject to fluctuations in dust, odors, fumes, and noise

• Strong communication skills – communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and over radio devices

• Strong work ethic – uses time efficiently, works safely, and ensure everyone around him/her is working safely

• Responsible for handling, moving, and disposing of scrap material in safe manner

• Strong attention to detail with close visual attention for sustained and long periods of time

• Safety conscious and orientated with a proven history of reliability as well as willingness to learn and work responsibly

• Mentally alert to surroundings and willing and able to work shift work
